Task sites are subject to change as we are sometimes asked to undertake high priority work at short notice. Anyone going straight to the task site should check with the task leader.

  • Sunday 10 June - Honey Lane Quarters
    We are returning to this site in order to remove the invading Himalayan balsam.

  • Sunday 17 June - Long Running
    Our first visit to this site since 2008. We will be removing birch and small tree infill as part of the HLS Scheme.

  • Tuesday 19 June - Bury Wood (near Cuckoo Pits)
    We will be removing saplings within the hornbeam coupe.

  • Sunday 24 June - Two Tree Island
    This is our annual visit to this EWT reserve to help in preventing salt marsh erosion. This is achieved by tying faggots around the edge of the island. Old clothes are essential as the work is extremely muddy. Sun hats and sun cream are also necessary as shade is non-existent.

  • Sunday 1 July - Deershelter Plain
    This is a great location, and on this occasion we will be re-pollarding oak, beech and hornbeam pollards.

  • Tuesday 10 July - Leyton Flats
    We have been asked to coppice the gorse damaged by fire.

  • Sunday 15 July - Great Monk Wood
    The last time this site was worked was in January 2006 when we cleared around some ancient crab apples. This task is the first of two when we will be removing birch in order to open the area as part of the HLS Scheme.

  • Sunday 29 July - Lodge Road Bog
    As always, we celebrate International Bog Day with a frolic in a mire. On this occasion we will be removing common bulrush from this very important site.

  • Sunday 5 August - Great Monk Wood
    This will be a continuation of the task of 15 July.

  • Sunday 12 August - Wanstead Park
    This year we are visiting Wanstead Park again for our annual summer BBQ. The morning will consist of the removal of small trees and some scrub from around the mound by the lodges, after which we will be having our BBQ and indulging in suitable summer pastimes.

  • Tuesday 14 August - Sunshine Plain
    This area has been opened up enormously over the past few years; on this occasion the intention is to remove birch saplings from the heathland.

  • Saturday 18 August - Epping Forest Burial Park
    We will be coppicing sweet chestnut and offering visitors the chance to have a go at tree felling, as part of the Working Woodland Day. See Events Page for details.

  • Sunday 26 August - Gilbert Slade
    We will be continuing with our work at this core site by removing holly from around oak and hornbeam pollards.

    We will be thinning a small area of new pollards.

  • Sunday 16 September - Wake Valley Pond West
    This is the most southerly of three ponds on the western side of Epping New Road close to Wake Valley car park. The intention is to remove small trees and coppice willow around the edge of the pond in order to allow in more light.

  • Sunday 23 September - North Long Hills
    We are returning to this core site in order to remove holly and small tree infill as part of the HLS Scheme.

    We are returning to this site to continue with the task of coppicing hawthorn and oak. This is part of Phase II of Project Nightingale and the HLS Scheme.
